Join Rebecca Murphy on the first and third Mondays, from 5-7 p.m. for Reba’s Reggae & Blues, and on the second and fourth Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Reba’s Mostly Blues on KFOK Community Radio, 95.1 FM and streaming live at kfok.org. Reggae and blues are an interconnected combination of musical genres that blend together nearly seamlessly. Both make you want to move your feet, and both soothe the soul with rhythmic beats.
Short bio
Reba, as I am known on-air, has been listening to reggae since its introduction into this country in the early 1970s. With radio reception into Jamaica from the Gulf states, blues music from the South influenced the mento and native drum beats of the people in the islands. Being able to play blues and reggae together for our listeners brings me much joy.
I started broadcasting with KFOK in February 2003, just three months after the station’s first on-air broadcast. My first show was an hour and called “Roots, Rock, Reggae with Reba.” Later I called my show Reba’s Reggae Revue, which morphed into Reba’s Reggae & Blues. Blues is another one of my favorite genres, so in 2012 or there about, I added those familiar strands to my playlist.
Come on along with me and let’s enjoy the musical ride together.
